Types and features of packaging material.

One of the recent improvements in the packaging industry, Flexible Packaging has willingly gained acceptance and is now widely used worldwide for its profit over rigid packaging. Offering a collection of benefits such as convenience, brand protection from counterfeiting and not to forget cost effectiveness, the flexible packaging industry is seeing a remarkable development.

Classification of Packaging Material

There are three primary types of packaging: primary, secondary, and tertiary the packing that comes in straight contact with the creation is Primary packaging. It usually consists of the pack in which the thing is sold. Secondary packaging consists of a ridged cardboard box and a tertiary packaging will have a larger box, which will be used in shipping. Primary packaging materials would be plastic, metal or cardboards while corrugated cardboard is the most general type of tertiary and secondary packaging material.

Product packaging is a very significant process for businesses. For most customers of diverse products from the supermarket, packaging simply means a product's wrapper or container that usually goes into the rubbish bins after the product was consumed. For most manufacturers, however, packaging means more than that. Here are the dissimilar types of packaging materials in common use.

Plastic: This material is the most commonly used and most flexible for packaging different types of goods such as food and beverages, automotive spare parts, accessories, clothing, and others. It comes in a shape of bag, containers, trays, blister packs, and boxes which can be used after use. Plastic, which comes in different thicknesses, is preferred by millions of manufacturers worldwide because apart from adaptability, it also allows damage and printing. Manufacturers use plastic both for primary and secondary packaging.

Aluminium: Another common packaging material is aluminium which is also recyclable. Aluminium packaging is frequently used for accumulate goods for complete periods of time such as canned tunas, vegetable, cocktails, and meat. Some producers also use option for aluminium such as steel that allows airtight sealing. Aluminium packaging has inside coating called bisphenol-A (BPA) to keep the food from defect by the metal.

Cardboard: More strong than paper and environment safer than plastic, cardboard packaging has been used for a long time. Some foods such as crackers, candies, nuts, dairy products, and dry condiments such as salt and pepper used to be marketed in cardboard packaging before they were packaged in plastic. Packaging using cardboard is believed to be not wastefully sound, because wood pulp, the material used in manufacturing cardboard packaging is taken from renewable source.

Bubble wrap: Less common than cardboard and aluminium is bubble wrap packaging which does not right away go to the refuse. The reason for this is that, bubble wrap provides activity by popping the air bubbles that provide that reduce for the product. Many people enjoy popping these air bubbles, after unpacking the items. Packaging using bubble wrap is frequently used for delicate goods and appliances such as glass, cups, vases, frames, music players, television set, and others.


Textile: Packaging using textile are used for products such auto parts. These auto parts are best protected by textile packaging specially when being transported from factory to stores. Textile can be used with other packaging materials such as cardboard and metal.
